Who we are

We are a Church of England congregation located in Churchgate Street, northeast Harlow, serving the communities of Old Harlow, Churchgate Street, Gilden Park, Newhall, and the surrounding areas. Our members come from diverse backgrounds and different churches, united in our journey to follow God together.

At the heart of our community is our experience of God as our loving Father through a personal relationship with Jesus. We have also discovered God's presence in our lives through his Holy Spirit working among us. Our purpose as Christians is to worship and serve God in all of our lives. Whilst we are not perfect, we strive to grow together in faith through worship, prayer, Bible study and openness to the Holy Spirit.

We believe that God's love for all of us is wonderful news and that He wants us to share it with others.

Our vision for St Mary’s is to bring God’s abundant blessing to the people of Old Harlow and beyond.

We want to:

• be a visible and welcoming family to all those moving into the new developments within our parish, with a desire to see more young families join us.

• encourage and disciple newcomers to the church in their faith.

• develop and extend our outreach activities, becoming more mission-focussed with a spiritual impact, to grow the body of Christ.

• be a prayerful body of Christ where our individual and corporate prayer life is central to supporting each other and the wider community.

• be a nurturing church and develop our house groups further.

• see a greater outpouring of the Holy Spirit to increase and deepen personal relationships with Jesus, to equip us to serving each other and sharing the gospel.

• deepen our knowledge of the Bible through good teaching, so that we have a better understanding of what we believe.
  
  

In May 2025 we launched our new church logo.

The new design features a bold blue cross embraced by a golden flame and dove, symbolising Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit and the church’s vibrant mission to serve, inspire, and grow. This visual transformation beautifully encapsulates the church’s vision: Loving God, Following Jesus, Sharing His Love.

“We’re excited to share this new logo as a visual reflection of who we are as a church family,” said Revd Sarah Swift, Vicar of St Mary’s. “It’s a reminder of our calling to follow Christ wherever he leads us, live out our faith and share God’s love with our community.”
